ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The  Department of English was started in 2005 to offer Part-II English studies to the students of various undergraduate courses. The Department was set in motion with this dictum in the year 2005 intending to beget impeccable English to the Rural  Mass. It has been doing commendable service in importing communicative skill to the students of rural background since inception. The Department was upgraded as major department   in 2010 to offer BA ENGLISH Literature. 

The Department has been producing  university rank holder and stands unique in  securing good results among the college of Madurai Kamaraj University. Faculty members of  rich experience play a pivotal role in molding the department. The  Department enfolding a cluster of meticulous faculty who play a vital role in perking up the language ability and literary knowledge of the students. 

VISION

The department of English strives to  impart comprehensive knowledge of the various aspects of English through a competent and cutting –edged curriculum and prepare the students for various professions.

 

MISSION

  • To empower the students with language skills and soft skills.
  • To get them acquainted with the recent trends and theories of English Language and Literature. 
  • To introduce them to the philosophy and mechanics of research.
  • To train them in the methods and skills of independent academic and research work through projects, assignments, seminars, research papers and projects. 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

   

. To enable students to gain proficiency in the use of English language.

  1. To expose them to classics in English literature.
  2.  To enable them gain knowledge of the social and literary history of England, the literary genres, the literary movements, and the various schools of thought in literary criticism.
  3.  To develop their vocabulary and English language skills so as to enable them perform well in competitive examinations, like Public Service Commission Examination, TOEFL & GRE.
  4.  To expose them face challenges in mass media.
  5.  To help the students to develop career-oriented skills through elective courses.
  6.  To develop the skills the students really like to develop through choice based credit system.
  7.  To enable the students through skill based elective courses and non-major elective subjects to have a good deal of freedom and to be employable immediately on completion of their degree programme.

ELIGIBILITY

ELIGIBILITY:

  Canditate should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Board of higher secondary Education ,Government of Tamil Nadu or any other Examination accepted by syndicate , as equivalent there to,with English as one of the subjects in Higher secondary Education.
