NPTEL - Swayam Local Chapter

NPTEL - Swayam Local Chapter

NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course content in engineering and science. NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science, and Humanities streams.

To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across colleges to participate in this initiative, we are setting up a SWAYAM-NPTEL chapter in colleges (with the approval of the management) which will be under the headship of a faculty member of the college, who would be our Single Point of Contact (SPOC).

SPOC can identify suitable mentors for various courses, who can ensure that students are active in a course, are submitting their assignments on time, and also clarify the doubts they may have.

NPR Arts & Science College will be part of this initiative, and listed as Local Chapter for NPTEL.

NOC stands for NPTEL Online Certification. NPTEL is now offering online certification courses through its portal https://archive.nptel.ac.in. There are 4wk, 8wk as well as 12wk courses offered twice a year.

NPTEL web and video courses across 23 disciplines are available on our portal archive.nptel.ac.in. In 2014, the process of getting certified from NPTEL courses was initiated, so that learners get a tangible result in the form of a certificate from the IITs/IISc for their effort.

Certification courses are offered twice a year

  • January-June
  • July-December

Joining a course is free. Anyone can learn from these courses anywhere anytime. No prerequisites, no age limit, and no entrance criteria to enroll.

Learning can be done by watching videos and this is tested by the weekly assignments, that are to be submitted online within the prescribed deadline. Any queries/doubts you may have, learners can post in the respective discussion forum, which will be answered by the faculty and his/her team.

The learner has to be present in person for the exam and currently, exams are conducted only in India in about 200+ cities in two shifts. The learner has to appear at the designated exam center to participate in the exam, where his/her ID is verified.

Assessment

  • 25% of the final marks come from the Assignments
  • 75% from the final exam.

The main benefits of participating in an online course under NPTEL are:

  1. Students: Credit transfer and better resume
  2. Faculty: Refresher courses, AICTE-recognized FDP courses
  3. Working professionals: For upskilling and reskilling

You may enroll (join) in courses in the SWAYAM portal.
To write exams and get a certificate, you have to:

  • enroll at https://archive.nptel.ac.in/
  • register for exams at the NPTEL portal
  • pay exam fees
  • write exams at the designated exam centre
  • pass the exam by scoring 40 marks or above, that is they have to score a minimum of 10 out of 25% in the assignment and 30 out of 75% in the final proctored exam.
  • pass the exam by meeting the eligibility criteria in both assignments and proctored exams as per the course.
